that would have been the weekend of the Wales Comic Con that he pulled out of - the video apology he had posted on their site was very amusing ...

I do hope he has acting work in the US/Canada, and that he didn't just cancel Wales for an evening with John and Eve in Calgary ... at least that would explain the need to put Blue Gillespie on hold as well...

I think the band thing could be for different reasons, they've always been off and on again whilst he was working before, maybe they've just decided to call it a day. But the Canadian gig must be much more lucrative than Wales comic con would have been, so it would be worth it. From their website it looks like they wanted all three of them as they have a thing of reuniting cast teams.

true - and after Clarke left the band they were probably more likely to lose momentum ...

and if he doesn't have any major acting jobs lined up, a better paying con would make financial sense ...

Oh yeah, I think those sorts of bands are money pits, they tend to lose more than they make, there are a lot of ex bands who were signed and had records but still couldn't make enough to carry on.

Those cons do pay thousands, so I always think they tend to do it if they can, the money is more than a months wages for most of us. It's like a bit of voiceover/advertising for an actor £5-£10K or so, depends on who you are and someone like Kevin Bacon doing that advert, probably more like £200K. Not worth turning down! I often wonder if GDL has a voice agent, as he has a voice that would get a lot of work and some people make a good living just from audiobooks and voiceover. But then again we are always wanting to tell him how to manage his career!

I was listening to that short story competition winner he read a few years back and I think he's really good at that kind of thing. Whenever I used to listen to Radio 4 I used to think he should try getting more voice work too. I thought he would be good in that.

I was hoping the band hiatus and the cancelling Wales Comic Con was about acting work and not just more cons. But I guess we'll see.

his role in the audio play 'The thirteen hallows' was brilliant ... he hinted at having more audio work when asked a question at the 11th Hour con in December ..

and you're right, we've all got ideas of how he should manage his career - but that's because we saw a talent there and want to see/hear more of it...

he always said acting came first for him, before the music, and the band was a hobby rather than a career... that's why I'm hoping it's a sign that there is more acting work on the horizon

I should check out The Thirteen Hallows', but yeah it's easy for us to say what he 'should' be doing, but we don't really have a clue what's going on in his life. Sometimes you can do all the right things and it still doesn't work out. And I guess that's even more true with something like acting which is so fickle to begin with.

But still it would be cool to see him doing more regular acting work.

his character is only on the second disc, but he make a wonderfully outrageous Welsh knight who's been on guard for 1400 years ... boisterous is the word used to describe him and he is very funny and totally adorable ... I'd recommend it as a fun tale to listen to anyway, and it makes a pleasant change to hear Gareth play a character that's having fun without a glimmer of angst or doom ...

I would die a thousand deaths if I attended an event like that, but I would pay a great deal to be a fly on the wall!

I love the idea of the three of them together and so much better than the debacle that was TGSITG last year which disappointed more than it gave - apart from the group pics :)

I agree that Calgary with the other two is going to be a better gig than WCC which Gareth does every year and obviously has a big loyalty to. And it will be such fun for the three of them. I have a picture somewhere of John and Gareth greeting each other backstage at a Con and the hug is massive, it just warms your heart to see their obvious affection.

Meanwhile this doesn't solve the mystery of the pulling back from BG. If not much was happening then fair enough, but I don't see Gareth, or probably the other two, cancelling gigs without good reason - look at the apology Gareth gave to the WCC attendees!
We can only hope it's more work that we can all get to see...

I agree with the audio stuff. I read a review for The Thirteen Hallows which particularly praised GDL's role and delivery, saying what a highlight it was and asked for more - and no, not a TW fan!
